Neighbors in South Williamsburg have long said Sazon Perez does not let food go to waste. In 2024 a TikTok put that kitchen habit on the map.
Sazon Perez has been a Dominican kitchen on South 4th Street since 1990 — in Los Sures, the south side of Williamsburg that a lot of the city now just calls “Williamsburg.”
The lunch line is not new. In 2015, Ian Phillips’s short documentary Cada Noche: Every Night, screened at UnionDocs during Northside, put a number on it: Sazon Perez serves more than five hundred customers a day, “not including the men who line up outside…every night.”
What neighbors still talk about is what happens after the rush. Guests on Yelp and Instagram keep writing the same thing in their own words: this kitchen does not throw food away. One Instagram note on a 2025 neighborhood post put it plainly — “they never let food go to waste.” Another guest, Sal O. on Yelp, started the same thought: no food goes to waste.
In November 2024, TikTok creator Estabel filmed that work. Sazon Perez shared the clip with a simple caption: “Acciones que vale la pena compartir.” A huge thank you for shining a light on the restaurant’s mission to give back. Juntos, hacemos la diferencia. The post is tagged Los Sures, Community First, Brooklyn.
People who already eat here answered in the comments — blessing the owners, promising to keep buying lunch, and asking God to look after a business that still feeds people looking for a plate.
