In September 2024, Shops of New York gave Sazon Perez the Short Film Festival Impact Award — a nod to the kitchen, the film, and the community around it.
On September 30, 2024, Sazon Perez was called up for something that is not a lunch special.
Shops of New York honored the restaurant — together with IANEWORK — with the Short Film Festival Impact Award. The kitchen posted a thank-you the same day: proud to be in a room that was celebrating small businesses, filmmakers, and organizers, not just a plate of pernil.
The photographs are by James E. Duff. The people who already eat on South 4th answered in the comments: “Inspiring work you do. Great to see the film.” And: “We loved the film and are so inspired by everything you do for the community.”
Sazon Perez is still a neighborhood Dominican restaurant. The award is one more way Los Sures, Williamsburg, and the rest of Brooklyn said they had noticed.
